Why can’t I just take medicine?
Studies have shown that therapy can boost the effectiveness of medication. Many people don’t like to rely solely on medication and prefer to have “tools” in their tool box. In addition, some medications can have addictive properties.
Isn’t therapy a sign of weakness?
The stigma of needing help is slowly dissipating. Seeking help is often the first baby step in the process and can be a sign of strength. It is important to care for yourself in order to care for others.
Won’t things get worse if I talk about them?
We compartmentalize things out of survival. Talking about things and ceasing the avoidance is hard. At first, by nature things get worse before getting better. However, people over time experience relief, better functioning, and an improvement in their overall quality of life.
